Brighton & Hove's Spring Harvest Food Festival got off to a flying start as Nick Mosley from Brighton Visitor dropped the starters arm on a pancake race on Brighton Pier. Becky Lynch from Brighton Temptation, Dom Garland from Terre a Terre, Michael Bowerr from Hotel Du Vin, Roger Marlowe from Paskins Hotel, Peter from Drakes and Wan Tunkittipinyo from Sabai Thai ran a hotly contested race, with Michael Bowerr just pipping the style king Peter from Drakes at the post. Following the race, competitors and spectators alike repaired to Pub Du Vin to quench a righteous thirst at the Festival Launch and Sussex Beer Festival opening. Prandial delights included samples of the five finalists recipes in the Great Brighton Ice Cream Competition from Boho Gelato, a taster of chocolate festival delights from Chocoholly and Chock Chick, and on the barbecue Pub du Vin's hand reared, beer fed pork. Tasting notes were passionately exchanged as oceans of Sussex beers, ciders and perrys sporting exotic names such as Headless Horseman, Iron Horse, Hophead and Ozzie's Folly, washed down the foodie delights. A grand launch for a superb event. For more info go to http://www.brightonfoodfestival.com/
