The latest offering from Brighton Festival season, Marseille's Générik Vapeur is one of France's premier street theatre producers, tonight transformed the streets of Brighton with a spectacular display of mayhem involving cars, paint, live rock music, and pyrotechnics. What began at Victoria Gardens as a string of white cars cunningly yoked together behind a very large tractor arrived at The Level amidst smoking flaming flares transformed into a rainbow of hues. And of course there was nothing for it then but to hoist these soggy canvases aloft to be pegged onto a washing line to dry, amidst further pyrotechnic and sound shenanigans. The crowds adored it, not a few becoming daubed with paint themselves, and long after the performance finished lingered on the Level to continue with their own festivities.
