A trip on Sunday to Mount Etna began with a taste of honey and ended with a fabulous lunch and wine tasting.
The Honey producers Dolce Parco, Zafferana, were our first stop. The di Prima family have run their honey producing and retailing business since 1930 based on the slopes of Mount Etna. Here they gather honey from their bees which have collected nectar according to the season on orange, lemon, prickly pear, thyme, eucalyptus, loquat and wildflower and chestnut blossom.
After ascending Etna, a visit to the Azienda Agricola Gambino, [Gambino vineyard] at Linguaglossa for a late lunch and wine tasting was a welcome conlusion to our tour.
The visit was made as part of Brighton & Hove Food Festival International Chef Exchange. Guest Gelato maker Seb Cole from Brighton UK's Boho Gelato was at Nivarata Granita Festival in Acireale, Sicily, as part of the International Chef Exchange. His exchange partner, gelato maker Nicola Scaccianoce, will visit Brighton in return at the Brighton & Hove Food and Drink Festival in September. The tour was hosted by Nivarata, accompanied by translator Licia Arcidiacono, transport and guides Mare Neve Escursioni.
