The Amex Stadium hosted a FareShare Feast on Monday, celebrating 10 years of the Brighton organisation's work in the City. Distributing close to sell by date food donated by supermarkets and food distributors to local charities who help the disadvantaged, FareShare helps all of us by also reducing waste and landfill.
Together with the Brighton & Hove Food and Drink Festival, City College Brighton & Hove, members of the Brighton Restaurant Association the event helped raise awareness about food waste. The meal was created using surplus food by teams of students from City College under the guidance of Chefs from Terre a Terre, Moshimo, Seattle Hotel and The Hove Kitchen. Local businesses also donated food and drink: Espresso Mushroom company provided their oyster mushrooms grown on upcycled coffee grounds, Boho Gelato provided sorbet and ice cream, coffee was from Small Batch and chocolates from Divine, wines from Stopham and Ridgeview and beers from WJ King. Front of House service was provided by first year students from City College who coped well at their first event, despite some understandable nervousness. Supporters of the event PHS Wastetech handled waste management, which between appreciative diners and hungry students was kept to a minimum in the spirit of the event!
