Although things didn't get off to a very good start, the weather being rather unkind, it didn't seem to dampen the enthusiasm of race goers on Ladies Day at Brighton Race Course. There may have been the odd poncho and pair of welliess around, but even they had a certain style to them. So what if there was too much rain and fog to make picnicking out of doors much fun, there was more than enough room in the bars to spread out the brie, strawberries and champagne whilst everyone waited for the racing to resume. And resume it did as the fog began to lift, even the sun managed a brief appearance later in the day. Like an exotic flock coming home to roost the ladies in their feathers and fascinators populated the grandstand and grounds in a twinkling, bringing bright splashes of colour out to vie in the eye-catching stakes with the silks of the jockeys.
