The Caribbean Tourism Organisation hosted Caribbean 'Rum & Rhythm' by the Sea at the Thistle Hotel, Brighton for the first time. Ian ‘Rum Ambassador’ Burrell was there with cocktails galore, celebrity chef Momma Cheri cooked up a storm whilst Classic soul/vintage reggae ensemble Tropical Elements got everyone rocking to a Caribbean beat.
There was a chance to sample a cornucopia of Caribbean delights: Caribbean rums and treats from the islands of Barbados, Bermuda, Caymans, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, St. Kitts, Saint Lucia, St. Vincent & The Grenadines, whilst Sandals & Beaches Resorts, Hotel Chocolat, Virgin Atlantic, Brugal Rum, El Dorado Rum, Benjies Caribbean Kitchen, Cummin Up Caribbean Caterers amongst others served up their own delicious offerings.
Ian Burrell gave a cocktail making demonstration and enlisted the assistance of cabin crew from main sponsors British Airways, much to the hilarity of the audience. Momma Cherri gave a cooking demonstration to prove how easy it was to whip up a couple of Caribbean delights, and Cubashe Dance Promotions gave a salsa lesson. One of the highlights of the event had to be the top raffle prizes: three lucky winners won holidays in the Caribbean provided by event sponsors British Airways, Virgin Atlantic and Sandals & Beaches resorts.
The event brought together all the things that are culturally unique and fascinating about the Caribbean and included the people, chefs, travel industry professionals and CTO member countries and islands; as well as culinary and rum aficionados.
